Shock as Bowhill club closes over unpaid utility bill
5 AugustAfter worries of the Dundonald Institute's demise - there has been another shock in Cardenden this week, with the Bowhill War Memorial Club being forced to close its doors over an unpaid utility bill.
Last Friday the club had to close after its electricity was cut off by provider npower - a move which has been described as 'disastrous', 'shocking' and a 'tragedy' for the town.
The company refused the club any more time to pay an outstanding bill of £10,000, and the committee members were forced to close the Station Road premises, putting the future of around 14 staff into doubt.
The club is hoping to re-open for the weekend, with an event planned for Saturday evening, and a gig on Sunday. Plans are being made to get a generator if the problem with the power company can't be resolved in time.
