Does anyone remember the little wooden cottage that used to be in the Cardenden/Bowhill woodland? (or, 'round the Den as it was more commonly known) The 100 year old cottage was called Bairnsbridge Cottage. My family lived there with our dogs, goats, chickens and a horse until we moved out for some renovation works in 1980. Unfortunately, we never got to move back in as the garage, shed, internal oak doors and oak wall panelling were all stolen from the property. What was left was then vandalised and burned to the ground.

It still makes me sad to think what might have been. My family still own this land and we'd love to use it again in the future as we spent the happiest years of our life growing up there. Do you have any stories or memories of this cottage? We'd love to hear them Also, any ideas of how to bring the land to life again would be appreciated.

The woods round Cardenden are lovely, it is a nice place to go for a walk with your family. The 170,000 will help a lot to keep the paths and walkways clear, new fences are needed, and new trees planted,i only hope the people who go up there with there horses are stopped as they and people on moterbikes churn up the paths.

Yeah! I remember that cottage. I used to live there with you. :-)

Happy Days!

Let's hope that some of the money is used to stop motorcycles speeding along the woodland walks putting other users at serious risk damaging the flora and scaring away the fauna.  About time that the Access Scotland laws regarding use of motorised vehicles in designated woodland areas were enforced to make the woodlands a safer and more peaceful experience for the majority rather than a playground for the few.

I hope they are replacing the trees that have now been taken down, as there is now no woods left at the back of our house!, no trees to encourage the birds into our garden just a wide open space, that has been "thinned" down. I wonder how much wildlife has been destroyed to "improve" Bowhill Woodlands.  Pretty gutted actually, my garden was quite picturesque in the summer and winter, now there is nothing.
