Cardenden - 10 years
The Community Newsletter was established at the beginning of the Millennium and has recorded all the major events over the past 10 years.
A Tidy Up of the River Ore was carried out and this was followed by the creation of the Community Garden in Bowhill. Improvements in the Den and Carden Woods have also been undertaken, along with a Motor Cycle Track and Cairn to commemorate the last pistol duel in Scotland.
An All Weather Pitch, Roller Blade Track and Skate Board Facility were constructed in Wallsgreen Park and plans to upgrade the Park are in hand.
Plans for a Re-cycling and Landfill Facility at Westfield met with opposition and this led to a public inquiry. Although the plans were given the go-ahead, nothing materialised. New plans for a Wind Farm and Green Business Park are being prepared.
The Baptist Church and St Fothads Church were demolished and houses built on the sites. St Fothads Hall was later demolished and a New Hall has been built at Auchterderran. New houses have been built at Jamphlars and proposals to create an ECO Village were put forward. Although this has not been included in the Council's Structure Plan, two sites have been set aside which could accommodate affordable ECO houses.
The annual John Thomson football tournament celebrated its 25th year in 2008 and John has now been inducted into the Football Hall of Fame. The Bonfire and Fireworks Display continues to attract a large crowd, along with the Village Fair.
Bowhill Centre and the Corrie Centre continue to serve the community along with the extended Doctor's Surgery and the 'Goth Clock' is chiming again.
Flower Baskets were introduced and in 2005, Cardenden won a Best Kept Small Town Award. Some years later someone nominated it for a Carbuncle Award, which caused an outcry, but it was won by Glenrothes.
In 2007 Cardenden Primary School celebrated its 50th anniversary, but structural faults forced it to close and a replacement school is planned.
Over the years many other events have taken place and many people have worked hard to make them a success - so what will happen over the next 10 years?
